The Duke of York opens the new Embassy in Algiers

HRH The Duke of York paid a visit to Algeria from 17 – 19 May 2009 in his role as UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. This visit, the second of its kind (the first one took place in November 2007), aimed to help forge stronger ties between the UK and Algeria.

During his three day visit, the Duke of York attended a Luncheon for representatives of British businesses given by Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Mr Andrew Henderson, and met both the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister for Investment.

During the second day of his visit, the Duke of York also carried a number of engagements. He opened the new British Embassy in Algiers, called upon the Minister of Defence and attended a luncheon given by the Minister of Finance.

HRH the Duke of York also officially opened Linguaphone Algeria’s new training centre in Algiers.

HRH The Duke of York gave two interviews to Liberte and Echourouk newspapers where he talked about business relations between Algeria and the UK. "There are abundant business opportunities in Algeria. I am aware that the number of UK companies exploiting these opportunities is growing each year," the Duke of York said during his visit.
