Projecting British Muslims visit to Morocco and Algeria

A group of British Muslims are visiting Morocco and Algeria between 7 and 13 February 2009.

Intro to Projecting British Islam programme



The visit is an opportunity for British Muslims and their counterparts in Morocco and Algeria to learn from each others experiences in tackling common challenges.
The delegation hope to challenge any misconceptions that exist about Muslims in the UK, their integral role in British society and their engagement on key issues, including violent extremism. The delegation also aims to build lasting partnerships between British Muslims and their counterparts in Morocco and Algeria to develop joint ideas to promote a positive image of Islam in the UK. The visit should generate better mutual understanding of the challenges facing communities in Morocco and Algeria, and Muslim communities in the UK.

Projecting British Islam visits have proved effective at delivering strong messages to overseasaudiences about the integral role British Muslims play in UK society.The delegations visibly undermine the terrorist narrative that the UKand the West is engaged in a ‘war’ on Islam.

Projecting British Islam visits
A group of prominent British Muslims visited Darfur and the Middle East as part of the Projecting British Islam programme to demonstrate support for efforts for Muslim countries and organisations in the region to take a strong moral lead to resolve the conflict in Darfur.
